Strickland Gillilan letters [manuscript], undated.

In three letters to "My dear [James?] Keddie" Gillilan gives permission to reproduce "The reading mother," asks for some books to be mailed and promises to give them his immediate attention, thanks him for a payment, compliments him on books but points out that his own work is not included, refers to an enclosure, and comments on Buffalo's parsimony and lack of interest in books.

Strickland W. Gillilan (1869–1954) was an American journalist, author, poet, humorist and speaker. He is most famous for the poem The Reading Mother, which remains a popular poem on Mother's Day. He is also recognized as the author of Lines on the Antiquity of Microbes, said to be the shortest poem ever written. Much of his work is public domain and is often reproduced in greeting cards.
